How to get there?
i hired a tricycle and a guide from the official Tourist Office in Banaue.
We started our trip ca. 11 am which is quite late for this day trip, but we arrived via night bus from Manila and didn't have a choice.
The tricycle ride took ca. 40 min and we got to the starting point - the Saddle Point. From there it's a 45 min - 1 hour walk down. You can see some terraces as you walk down, but the truly spectacular views start when you reach the first houses.
Bear in mind - reaching the first signs of civilisation doesn't mean you're down with hiking. To reach the Batad village you have to go further down for ca. 20 mins. However, the best views are from the place where the houses start, so you can stop to take some pictures there.
When we reached the village in the valley, our guide told us some facts and information about the lives of people in the village. We walked around the village for some time.
As we arrived there quite late, we didn't have time to see the waterfalls. Our friends did see them the next day and the pictures we saw were really nice. To get to the waterfalls from the village it's another one hour walk and then 1,5h back.
In the village you can buy some snacks and in the houses uphill there is some lodging and restaurants.
The hike up was quite strenuous. If you're in good shape you will find it a bit challenging, if you're in poor shape - you might get really, really sweaty :) I think It took us 1 hour to get back to the starting point.
We enjoyed our trip to the terraces - the views were magnificent. It was raining a bit, but it was still really warm.
TIP
- start the trip as early as possible,
- hire a guide - it's really cheap and you won't have to worry about finding the route,
- if you like hiking - go to the waterfalls as well.
I ENJOY BANAUE RICE TERRACES.
hope you too.
